As of Late

I have not written here in many a sunrise/sunset.

I have no excuse.

Since graduation in December, I’ve been actively searching for employment with little luck. It’s rather frustrating. As a result I haven’t been able to make it to the movies lately. I did see Saving Mr. Banks but I don’t think that’s worth writing an article or review on as it’s not the kind of movies that I would normally review here. But if you care I shall briefly tackle it:

I’ve never actually seen Mary Poppins all the way through. Not ever. It never interested me growing up and it doesn’t really interest me now. What I did see I didn’t hate, it just didn’t really appeal to me. I think that in order for you to really enjoy Saving Mr. Banks I think you need to have some fondness for the film.

I suppose that Tom Hanks did a fine job portraying Walt Disney, but I don’t really recall ever seeing the man talk and move. I only ever saw pictures of him. I can’t comment at all on Emma Thompson’s portrayal of P.L Travers as I had no idea who she even was. Her character could be considered irritating, annoying, and perhaps even antagonistic in a way due to her attitude and stubbornness throughout, but I tried to place myself in her shoes. Here she has a book and a character that are much more than that to her. Someone wants to take this work and turn it into a motion picture where liberties, changes, and cuts will surely have to be made. She only wanted to make sure the utmost care was taken…and if you know the story, well, you know how it turns out.

I suppose I enjoyed it. It’s not the kind of movie I’ll be scrambling to go and buy on DVD, nor is it one I have a desire to see again, but I enjoyed it for what it was. 6/10.

Other than not going to the movies, I have been watching a lot of them. I know I said I was going to do a “series” review and I still intend to do so. I know I asked before, but perhaps I can a better idea. What shall I review?

Bond…James Bond movies?
Resident Evil?
Indiana Jones? (and just for fun we’ll include the one with the kid from Holes)
Perhaps a more complete review of all the Marvel movies?

Let me know!

  1. Bond movies would be good. I could input my reflections from when my whole family went to go see them as I was growing up.
